Here is what we will be doing to start the year: 1) Get to know each other activities 2) Science: a)"Twelve Men on the Moon" reading activity, b) Volunteers to go to Mars! c) Space Oddity as we watch the video record your observations and your thoughts on people living in space. WONDER what it would be like. d) begin discussing "I WONDER..." topics. e) What is Science? - Do you get the "gist" of this? worksheet - Homework: research the names of at least 4 different types/branches/areas of Science and record a one to two sentence description of what the area of Science is all about. (This needs to be in your own words!) Finish with a brief paragraph describing what branch of Science seems most interesting to you, and why? This will be due on Monday Sept. 16. We will also be considering and discussing: Why Science is important? Who cares about Science? How can we apply the things that we learn in Science class? 3) Math: Day 1 will involve an encouragement to students to regularly practice their Mental Math facts and basic skills. There will be an expectation that students are routinely working on these areas for homework. We will also begin some puzzle work and problem solving activities.
